To my fellow geeks hitting up
WidgetCon that are interested in chatting, ping me via comment/email/fb/ms/im/cell/office/fax (whatever you got). I am speaking there with some pretty cool folks. For those of you that do not have the scoop about this dope-as-a-rope conference here is the dish from our amigos at
Freewebs:
WidgetCon is a full day event to be held at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York on July 11th. Its objective is to begin to look towards the smart growth of widget marketing, through conversations on everything from standards to metrics to production and economics, as well as creative and media strategies.
This is making out to be an interesting event and will be the second official Widget-only conference ever. The first was
Widgets Live held last year. That event grew out of
organic blog commentary and was a smashing success.
The speaker list is below. There was one speaker recently added to this list. Our friend Linda Abraham, EVP Comscore, is joining the panel. You heard it here first! Congrats to Linda and team on the IPO - we are psyched to celebrate. :)

This post is mirrored from our shiny new Clearspring blog that went live about 45 minutes ago. I will continue to blog here Widgify, but will post Clearspring stuff there. I will occasionally double-post, or mention stuff if I think it is rad enough. I am so psyched that we are going to let people play with this stuff. If any of you guys have any ideas, questions, or comments post to our forum, email us, or contact me directly. We have a ton to do and would love your help.
Go get your shiny new account today!

Over the last couple months, we have had the good fortune to work with content partners like
Maxim,
NBA,
NBC Universal,
Time and
RockYou. Not only have we worked with some stellar partners on the content side, but we have also worked with leading widget-friendly destinations like
Microsoft Live,
iGoogle,
Netvibes,
Pageflakes,
Freewebs,
Friendster and more to make the ecosystem a better place for us all.
As we nailed down how to serve and process real-time analytics at scale with these folks earlier this year (that was hard), we started to kick around some ideas about how to get our friends from the developer community more into the mix. The idea was simple. Can we help anyone kick-start their own syndication strategy? Specifically, could Clearspring make it easy for every web developer to make, share and track widgets? And so Preview Program was born. Thousands requested accounts. Millions of widgets were served. Fires were put out. Some stuff worked. Some didn’t. But with your help, we built some cool stuff.
Recently, we have been inundated with requests. Our widget serving rate went nuts. Although we all wanted to do more stuff, we figured it was about time to let everyone play together. We are happy to announce that the preview is over. The
Clearspring Community Platform is now open for development. Oh yea, and it’s free.
Now you can use the same technology being leveraged by industry leading brands to get your widgets out and about in a jiffy. We provide a set of tools to transform your content and applications into widgets, syndicate widgets easily across multiple platforms, and leverage our robust analytics to track the spread of your widgets in real-time. Want to get started? Check out our
feature run-down and
create an account.
This is just the first step. We have a ton to do and are trying some new stuff out in real-time with this release. But we hope that together we can put a dent in the universe and transform the entire web. We created a developer center with
documentation,
a forum and this
(clearspring) blog. Ping us there or email us so we can jam out to build what’s next. Thanks to everyone for all their interest, feedback and support. We love working with you and are excited to make many more friends in the widgetsphere. We are truly excited to work with you all.
Let the games begin,
Hooman

Today
Clearspring Technologies and
NBC Universal are officially announcing a first-of-kind partnership. One of the largest media companies in the world will be working hand-in-hand with a widget syndication platform to execute a major cross-division strategic distribution initiative. This partnership is not just significant for Clearspring. It signifies a major shift for big media. They are officially moving away from a destination model and embracing the new model in web distribution - syndication.
The new model is media served a la carte. Video, text, audio, images, and applications are being exposed via web services and widgets. People are no longer are satisfied with the “go-to” content model, instead demanding a “come to me” web. - from Surviving Web 2.0 post
This announcement is particularly meaningful given the recent
Facebook F8 announcement. One of the fastest growing destinations on the web has officially opened their gates to widget developers. And now big media is officially playing along. I guess Newsweek was right to declare 2007,
'The Year of the Widget.'
For Clearspring, this part of a series of major announcements (see
Clearspring/CBS announcement) as we continue to execute on our mission of being the most scalable syndication platform on the planet. Believe it, or not, we have a couple more tricks up our sleeve. Stay tuned gang - this summer is going to be exciting.
I think it is safe to say we are witnessing the official beginning
Web 3.0. To read some early commentary on the announcement check out
Pete and
Alex's posts.
p.s. As an aside, it is amazing to see how fast this space is growing. I remember last summer when my brother and me were writing the first web widget definition in Wikipedia. ;)
